An Afternoon Feast

So what is actually in an Afternoon Tea? There are a number of variations and themes, but each remain true to its origin.

An Afternoon Tea will include a pot of tea, a selection of sandwiches, scones and cakes. In many instances, these will be arranged on separate plates within a tiered stand, making them a convenient form of ‘finger food’ that people can eat in any order they wish.

The most popular sandwich fillings served during British Afternoon Tea include smoked salmon & cream cheese, egg mayonnaise & cress, chicken & mayonnaise, and cucumber & cream cheese. Typical cakes include sponges, profiteroles, pastries and cupcakes.

Most Afternoon Teas will also include scones. These sweet baked goods originate in Scotland and are served with clotted cream and a fruity jam.
