King’s Official Residence
As the Official Residence of His Majesty the King, Buckingham Palace is arguably the most famous address in London.
The building has been the British monarchy’s main estate since 1837, when its first inhabitant was Queen Victoria. It has attracted numerous high profile visitors, as well as millions of tourists, ever since.
Though the Royal family own multiple homes, including Windsor Castle in Windsor, and Balmoral in Scotland, Buckingham Palace is the one in which most time is spent. Visitors to the Palace can tell whether the King is in residence by looking at which flag is flying at the time. The Union Jack symbolises that the King is currently away, and the Royal Standard - which represents the Sovereign and United Kingdom - means that he is present.
