The Current Fleet

There are currently two ferries in operation, both of which came into service sixty years ago, and were perhaps the influence behind the 1965 hit pop song.

The vessels have been carefully maintained and were renamed in 2012 to ‘Snowdrop’ and ‘The Royal Iris of the Mersey’. Snowdrop - also known as the Dazzle Ferry - has a particularly unique and colourful patterned design based on the designs of World War One vessels, which aimed to be as confusing as possible to the enemy. The livery was applied to the vessel’s exterior in 2015 as part of wartime commemorations.

Two new, low-carbon ferries are due to come into service within the next couple of years.
