Collections From the Decades
The Museum was first opened in 1917, shortly after the conclusion of the first World War. Its primary purpose was to remember the efforts made by all of those who made sacrifices for Britain during this time, but in the decades that have since passed, it has evolved to include all later conflicts which British or Commonwealth forces have faced.
There are a range of exhibits across the Museum which help explain and illustrate these important chapters of history. These include photographs, films, personal documents, art, and original military vehicles including aircraft. Some of the most interesting and noteworthy include a pistol owned by Winston Churchill, a mid-20th century submarine, and a piece of wreckage from one of the Twin Towers destroyed in 2001.
