Shakespeare’s Life
Shakespeare married Anne Hathaway, and the couple had three children together. After several years of his life in which there is not much historic record, he surfaced in London in 1592 as an actor and playwright and it was here that he made a real name for himself.
Although he was sometimes the subject of jealous criticism from his peers, Shakespeare’s works had a huge number of fans, including royalty. Queen Elizabeth I was known to hire Shakespeare’s company to perform during royal events.
Shakespeare returned home to Stratford-upon-Avon towards the end of his life, and though he had no official birth record, it is believed that he died on his birthday, 23rd April 1616.
Those attending our Bath Spa to Shakespeare's Stratford course will spend a day in Stratford-upon-Avon where there will be an opportunity to experience a self-guided tour of Shakespeare’s life.
