Poetic Stratford

Shakespeare was born and baptised in Stratford-upon-Avon in 1564 and later buried there. His life there can be seen through visiting his birthplace and retracing his steps with a walking tour. Several of his former homes and other places of significance remain open for visiting, including the home in which he was born, the one in which he spent some of the final years of his life, and the schoolroom in which he wrote his first plays.
For around 150 years, the Royal Shakespeare Company have been performing Shakespeare’s plays in Stratford-upon-Avon, London, on tour in the UK, and even internationally. The town is extremely proud of its most famous resident, and strive to ensure that his legacy is retained and life celebrated.
