Rocking Through The Decades

Local talent came to prominence with the Merseybeat in the 1960’s, a brand of rock and roll established around the city and comprising of a host of famous names, most notably Gerry & The Pacemakers. It was around this same time that a young Cilla Black was rising to fame through her live performances at the Cavern Club. The city’s music scene was an extremely lively one in the mid-twentieth century, and its situation as a major port with transatlantic links enabled it to import influential records and instruments from the U.S.

When the New Wave era of pop music started to emerge in the late 1970’s and early 1980’s, Liverpool was once again producing a wealth of musical talent, this time in the form of the likes of Orchestral Manouevres in the Dark and Frankie Goes to Hollywood.

In more recent years, Liverpool has taken proud responsibility for the likes of The La’s, The Coral, Space and other indie-based bands, further embedding itself within musical legend.
