Famous Diners

Over the centuries, the hotel has had a number of well known guests. The most famous was a young Queen Victoria, who came for lunch with her mother in 1832 during a daytrip to North Wales which caused a great deal of excitement among locals.

George Stephenson, an engineer often known as the ‘Father of the Railways’, also dined in the hotel after his son Robert completed the building of the town’s railway bridge in 1848. The bridge had a major impact on the town, meaning that trains could now travel to Conwy from as far away as Chester in England, a considerable distance for the railway during that era.

In 1863 the hotel had another royal visitor in the form of Prince Albert, one of Queen Victoria’s sons. Aged thirteen at the time, Prince Albert visited whilst the same age his mother had been those thirty one years earlier.
